STEPHEN W. HEBERT,MD

Dr. Hebert is a Board Certified Psychiatrist who has practiced in Winston Salem since 1975. He did his undergraduate work at North Carolina State and medical training at Wake Forest University. After his residency at Wake Forest University/NC Baptist Hospital he served on the faculty in the Psychiatry Department at Wake Forest University Medical School. In 1985 he began private practice and served as Medical Director of the Adult Treatment facility of Charter Hospital.  Areas of clinical interest include mood disorders(including anxiety, depression, and bipolar illness),  Adult Attention Deficit disorder, Acute Situational Reactions and prolonged grief. He is married with three children and enjoys playing music, woodworking, and golf.

BRUCE W. RAU,MD

Dr Rau is a Board Certified Psychiatrist practicing in Winston Salem since 1978. He graduated from Purdue University, received his medical training at the University of Missouri Medical School, and did residency training in Adult Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Hospital. He served on the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at Vanderbilt Medical School as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry between 1975 and 1978, initially as Director of the Drug Information, Treatment and Rehabilitation Clinic and then as Clinical Director of the Adult Psychiatric Inpatient Division. ln Winston Salem Dr Rau initially practiced with Salem Psychiatric Associates before joining New Directions in1988. He served as Medical Director of Charter Mandala Center between 1982 and1990, and also directed the Adult Open Unit Treatment Program and the Adolescent Treatment Program at various times during these years. Areas of special interest include the medical management of anxiety and mood disorders and adult attention deficit disorders.

JAMES D. MATTOX,MD

Dr. Mattox is a Board Certified Psychiatrist who has practised Psychiatry in Winston Salem since 1975. He recieved his undergraduate degree and his medical degree from Wake Forest University. He did his residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital before joining the faculty of Wake Forest University Department of Psychiatry. In 1978 he joined Salem Psychiatric Associates and practised there until 1987 when he moved to New Directions. He has served as Medical Director of the Adult Unit of Charter Mandala Center. His primary clinical interest is the treatment of Bipolar Disorders.

CHRISTINE CHILDS,MD

Dr. Childs is a Board Eligible Psychiatrist specializing in Adult Psychiatry. She did her undergraduate studies at North Carolina State University and her medical training at Wake Forest University. She then completed an internship and residency at the University of Arkansas. She enjoys seeing patients with a wide variety of psychiatric situations.
